Reviews:

David Keane, HotPress.com
““The irony is that up until walking off the band were really letting rip. There have been varying reports about the state of Axl’s voice recently, but he sounded really good on ‘It’s So Easy’ and ‘Sorry’. You could see that the O2 and MCD people were doing their best to sort things out, but it was pretty much out of their hands.””

Ronan McGreevy, Irish Times
“Rose had earlier frustrated the capacity crowd at the O2 by turning up an hour and a half late. He stopped the band during the intro to the second song Welcome to the Jungle when a bottle of water was thrown on stage. “Here’s the deal, one more bottle, we go home,” he told the crowd. “We want to stay. If you don’t want to have fun just let us know. We’ll be on our way.”"

Jim Carroll, On the Record
“What happened next ensures this gig’s place in Irish rock’n’roll history with MCD boss Denis Desmond channeling his inner Bill Graham to come onstage to tell the cats to chill.”

Patrick Conboy, State
“After the chaotic ending to their set at the Reading festival last weekend, Guns N’ Roses appear to be continuing their rock diva antics at tonight’s concert in Dublin’s O2.”

  1. gig was class ..the inbreds throwing the bottles of piss…and it was piss because i saw a lad with his flute in one..just confirmed for me that dublin is full of scumbags and only a scumbag with no knowledge of GNR would wear his county jersey in ….great gig axl sorry YOU couldnt enjoy it

  2. The gig was awful. I expect a long wait for GnR, everyone knows that Axl isnt early for any gig but it was shite how they treated the crowd last night. The cups being thrown were minimal compared to other gigs ive been to in the o2 (Prodigy, Kasabian, Rage) but even before they played Chinese Democracy as the opener Axl was snapping at the techincian helping him with his earpiece. He looked like he didn’t even want to be there. I was hoping for a gig to silence the Reading critics but this only made me agree with them. Walking off stage and keeping the crowd waiting for over three quarters of an hour (whatever MCD say it was closer to that than 30 minutes) while people who had parked their cars nearby had to leave due to the delay was a disgrace. I stayed for the second part of the gig but it just felt soured after Axls actions.

  3. I agree guys. The worst thing for me is to think that it’s acceptable to come out late and then play later. That may suit the band, but it doesn’t suit the customer in any way. Many people had to leave to get their cars, like you said Oisin, and others were stuck to bus timetables. I usually find myself having to leave gigs immediately at the end because of this, but if it’s because the band came on 30-45 minutes late, then that’s not acceptable. This whole doors 8, band 9 thing should hold up. The bands should start at what time the ticket specifies. If it can be done (as well as possible) for Electric Picnic and Oxegen, then why can’t it be done regularly at the O2?

  4. I was at the GnR gig at Belfast and there was stuff getting threw on the stage there and Axl just took it. At one stage someone even threw a rucksack at him but did he flounce off? No, he didnt. He just put it over his shoulder for five, the crowd give a cheer and he carried on with a cracking show.

But is Axl being a diva by going offstage when people are throwing bottles full of piss at him? I don’t blame the feller one bit as that’s just properly minging. And who pays (quite a bit of) money to go and watch a band and throw bottles of piss at them? Because if you know anything about GnR they never go on stage on time. Its the way they roll. If you don’t like it, don’t bother going in the first place.

He should have just went off and not come back on at all and if you disagree ask yourself this, would you like some dirty bastard to throw piss all over you?
